Patrimonio is an upscale neighborhood in the South Zone of Uberlândia, and is located 2 km from the city center.
The Patrimônio neighborhood is formed by the old neighborhoods: Copacabana, Copacabana - Setor Ômega, Chácaras Recreio, Patrimônio da Nossa Senhora da Abadia and Nossa Senhora da Abadia.
Origin of the Patrimony neighborhood
According to records from the time, Patrimônio was the first neighborhood in the city, after Fundinho (downtown Uberlândia).
The name originated from land called “Our Lady of the Abbey Heritage”, where former slaves began to live in the place, and over the years it attracted more people.
The beginning of the Patrimônio neighborhood was the sale of land, at ridiculous prices, by the owner of the land, José Machado Rodrigues, who donated 12 bushels to a church in the neighborhood. And those who mostly bought it were the black population, in mid-1888, when slavery was abolished and black centers grew throughout the city.
Many people were afraid to go to the Heritage at the time, because it was considered for a long time, a marginalized area.
Heritage neighborhood currently
Today the neighborhood is considered noble. It has several residential buildings of medium and high standard. In addition to plenty of commerce, on its main road, Avenida Liberdade.
In addition to Avenida Liberdade, other important roads in the neighborhood are Rua da Carioca and Avenida dos Municípios, where there is a viaduct that connects the central region of Uberlândia to the South Zone, passing through Copacabana and giving access to other neighborhoods.
Many people still know the Patrimônio neighborhood, such as Copacabana, which is the largest subdivision within the neighborhood, which is named after the city of Rio de Janeiro, such as the names of the streets: Arpoador, Leblon, Ipanema, Irajá, Sapucaí, among others.
The Copacabana/Patrimônio neighborhood is home to one of the largest recreational clubs in Brazil, Praia Clube, in Primo Crossara square.
According to the last 2010 IBGE Census, Patrimônio had around 4420 inhabitants. Today (2023), that number must have exceeded 8 thousand.
There are some colorful sculptures in Praça Sebastião José Naves, in honor of the Folia de Reis.
