Recreio dos Bandeirantes is an upscale neighborhood in the West Zone of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, forming part of the administrative region of Barra da Tijuca. It has a territorial area of ​​30,655 km², and is known for its beaches, environmentalism, organization, and safety.

It is bordered to the east by Barra da Tijuca, to the north by Camorim, Vargem Pequena and Vargem Grande, to the west by Barra de Guaratiba, Grumari and Guaratiba, and to the south by the Atlantic Ocean.[5]

Many artists have also chosen to live in the neighborhood. It was the neighborhood that made the most progress in the HDI (Human Development Index), going from 0.794 in 1991 to 0.894 in 2000, the 31st best in the city of Rio de Janeiro (index already out of date) [4]

Located west of the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood and east of Guaratiba, Recreio is the neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro that has grown the fastest in recent years. In 1980 it had 5,276 inhabitants, and in 1991, it had 14,344 inhabitants. It suffered a population explosion from the 2000s onwards, going from 37,572 inhabitants in 2000 to 82,240 inhabitants in 2010. It is one of the neighborhoods that are most valued in the city, attracting the upper and upper middle classes, coming from already saturated noble neighborhoods, and the emerging middle class, coming from humbler neighborhoods.
