Passo d'Areia (Porto Alegre)

Passo d'Areia is a neighborhood in the northern part of the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It was created by Law 2022 of December 7, 1959 and amended by Law 12.112/16.

Historic
In the 1940s, there were few residents in the Passo d'Areia neighborhood, and their houses were concentrated along Estrada do Passo d'Areia, currently part of Avenida Assis Brasil.
From 1941, the settlement of Passo d'Areia became more effective, with the urbanization and industrialization of the northern part of the city. Incidentally, the great flood of that year would also have driven the occupation of the neighborhood region, far from the streams of Porto Alegre.
In 1995, Hospital Lazzarotto, a traditional hospital in the cardiology area, closed its doors in the neighborhood.

Vila dos Industriarios
Vila do IAPI
In 1946, construction began on Vila dos Industriarios, better known as Vila do IAPI, whose project was modern and innovative for the standards of the time. Occupying an area of 67 hectares, the residential complex served to provide housing for workers and their families.
