Community Description

You have your style, your time, your way of experiencing the city. This is the difference of living in a region with infrastructure: there is always something you need very close to home. At Sou Perdizes you can take a bike, for example, and get to Água Branca Park. It's so fast you don't even have to wait for the weekend to take a spin through the green. A neighborhood with shops, gyms, restaurants, supermarkets, nightlife. And it will get even better with the arrival of the future PUC-Cardoso de Almeida Metro station.
Perdizes is an upscale neighborhood[1] located in the west zone of the municipality of São Paulo and belonging to the district of Perdizes. It has the third highest HDI among the districts of São Paulo, second only to Moema and Pinheiros.

It borders the neighborhoods of: Sumaré, Vila Pompéia, Água Branca, Barra Funda and Pacaembu.
Like many neighborhoods in São Paulo, Perdizes came from rural properties, one of which was Sesmaria do Pacaembu. There are records, dating from 1850, that indicate the presence of farms in the region, some of which raised animals, such as partridges. One of these properties belonged to Joaquim Alves, a cane juice seller who raised partridges in his backyard, where Largo Padre Péricles is today. The bird baptized the locality, informally called until then Campo das Perdizes.

Due to the growth of the city, the rural characteristics of the area disappear due to the subdivision and sale of the land. At the end of the 19th century, specifically in 1897, Perdizes entered the official plan of the city.[3] In the first decades of the next century, there was a real estate growth in the new neighborhood, being consolidated in the 1940s as a middle-class neighborhood.[4] Over the course of the century, it became vertical and hosted important educational institutions, such as PUC-SP in 1946.
The block, where PUC-SP is currently located, formed by the current streets Monte Alegre, João Ramalho, Ministro Godoy and Bartira, was the former Chácara Lúcia property of Germaine Lucie Buchard, Countess of Gontand Birou. In 1948, the Carmelites left the Monastery, which was donated to the Catholic University. The complex comprises the former Convent of Carmelitas Descalças and Chapel, designed by Alexandre Albuquerque, in the early 1920s, in neocolonial style, and the Teatro da Universidade Católica – TUCA, from 1965. The same university was the target of emblematic interventions and manifestos occurred during the military dictatorship, such as the invasion of its campus in 1977 and the demonstrations at TUCA, the university's theater.

Attracted by its tree-lined streets and good infrastructure for commerce and services, the real estate market began in the final decades of the 20th century to launch high-end buildings in the neighborhood.
