Community Description

Vila Leopoldina is a neighborhood located in the west of the city of São Paulo. In its beginnings, still in the 19th century, it was part of a space called Emboçoava, later dominated by German Jesuits.

Until the middle of the 20th century, the region's development did not demonstrate the potential that would be achieved later. Drinking water and public telephones, for example, only appeared there in the 1950s.

Little by little, the neighborhood began to house factories and industries and saw the exponential growth of real estate developments.

Located in one of the most important regions of the city of São Paulo, the neighborhood's visibility has generated opportunities for employment, housing, culture and well-being.

Knowing the economic and social importance that Vila Leopoldina carries, Aster developed this material. Here you will learn a little more about the history of the neighborhood, notable events, information of public interest and news. Check out!

The history of Vila Leopoldina
The modern neighborhood as it is known today has undergone transformations throughout its history until it reached the state we know.

Still in the 19th century, the region was part of a site called Emboçoava. Still in that century, German Jesuits acquired ownership of the place to build their houses.

Later, in 1894, a company that had purchased the land surrounded by the Tietê River from the religious people, decided to invest in hiring boats that would take possible future investors to the areas.

The action generated the first large subdivision in the region promoted by the company E. Ricther & Company, although with difficulties in marketing, as the location was swampy and this made it difficult to build projects.

It is interesting to know that the name “Vila Leopoldina” came to be used for the neighborhood in honor of a partner of the company, Leopoldina Kleeberg.

Even so, only after more than 30 years, in 1926, Incorporadora Siciliano & Silva, in partnership with businessman Antônio Vilares, promoted the subdivision of another 500 thousand square meters.

The expansion of the neighborhood began to take shape only after the middle of the 20th century. In the 1950s, the beginning of construction of the Miguel Mofarrej Industrial Center began the industrialization of the region, replacing the old brickworks with large industries.
