Parque 10 was created in 1938, when a year earlier, on November 10, 1937, President Getúlio Vargas had closed the National Congress, installing the Estado Novo. The hardening of the regime did not prevent the creation of the Parque 10 resort in Manaus, structured to receive Amazonian families in its natural pool, supplied by the clear waters of the Mindu creek, in a vast green area, with a zoo and a restaurant for the gastronomic satisfaction of visitors.
Access to the resort was via Rua Recife, which descended from the Adrianópolis neighborhood, on a cement-paved lane, to Parque 10. In the vicinity, where Avenida Efigênio Sales is now open, a path, formerly known as V-8, it led to countless farms, all with the Mindu creek at the bottom, forming private baths. The neighborhood was at the extreme limits of Manaus and, when crossing the igarapé, the forest prevailed in all its extension. The site remained for a long time as a huge leisure area, where the people of Manaus refreshed themselves on hot days and forgot about the economic haze that insisted on thriving in the Amazon.
However, the Parque 10 area suffers all the consequences arising from a new change in the political regime, now with the 1964 coup d'état, practiced by the military, which resulted in the creation of the Manaus Free Trade Zone and the construction of the Castelo Branco residential complex. , to meet the housing policy of the new government. Built by Cohabam (Companhia Habitacional do Amazonas), with federal funds, the complex was inaugurated in 1969 and began to receive its first residents, who occupied houses without all the necessary infrastructure for housing. The houses, with one, two and three bedrooms, had a bathroom, kitchen, a front porch and a backyard without a wall. Built in a completely deforested area, the houses were exposed to winds and storms that ripped off roofs and caused destruction to the complex.
